Make Mine a Double...Jan 29

Hello friends and fam.

It has been a hell of a two weeks around here...and now i am back with an update for you. The MRI of Lefty (the un-offending breast) came back clean...which is great, but oddly not that relevant. The MRI of Righty showed that there is still cancerous material in there. In fact, the doc is 'concerned' that, in addition to the happy-go-lucky non invasive cancer, there may be some invasive cancer in there too. Obviously, this totally sucks. The good news is that even if it is invasive, it is still early and small and treatable--it just opens the door to radiation and chemo. And, as I said, that totally, totally sucks.

This next part is a little counter-intuitive, but stick with me. Basically, because i am young, and because i have a long life ahead of me, they recommend doing a bilateral mastectomy (yeah, both sides...). The logic is based on the concept that its only a matter of time before it shows up in the other breast...and since i have like 60 years left to go, it's really bound to show up at some point in that window. make sense? Think of it as two for the price of one...

I don't have a date for surgery, but it will likely be in the next two weeks. I'll let you know when i know...

Most importantly, Michele and I are working hard to keep our senses of humor intact and functioning. We laugh about the ridiculousness of all of this and are accruing quite the comical and absurd list of reasons we think that i got cancer (i know that doesn't sound funny, but it actually really is!). We are watching a ridiculous amount of Battlestar Galactica (don't ask...) and are about to start watching an excellent selection of 1980's classic films (thanks Milton gang!).

I feel very loved and supported through this--so thanks to each of you for your emails and messages.

Much love.
xoxoxoxo,
hol
